Semen analysis

This takes place in our andrology laboratory.  We recommend THREE days abstinence prior to the analysis. The specimen can be obtained in your own home with a limited transport time of one hour. A semen culture for urea plasma will be done if required. All semen samples are washed to allow for a better study of these. It is advisable to have the seminogram before the first consultation so that these results can be taken a priori.

Pelvic ultrasound

This is carried out to analyse the state of the ovaries and uterus. It is very simple and safe and is always carried out in the first consultation.  It can provide a great deal of information.  It gives us an indication of the functional capacity of the ovaries. The uterine cavity is always examined to rule out polyps and fibroids that could hinder the implant process.

Endometrial biopsy

This is performed seven days post ovulation. The purpose is to study the endometrium to rule out hormonal deficiencies and infections. It only takes 30 seconds to obtain the sample, but it is painful.

Laparoscopy

This is a visual study of the genitalia together with the uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes. Basically we are interested in diagnosing endometriosis and any abnormalities in the area of the fallopian tubes. This test requires hospitalisation and a general anaesthetic.  It is performed less frequently nowadays.
